Preview Roundups
November 16, 2017
New Jersey at Toronto 7:00 PM ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs are riding high with a season-best four-game winning streak, with the last three victories coming without Auston Matthews in the lineup. The reigning Calder Trophy recipient could return to the ice Thursday as the Maple Leafs aim to avenge an early-season loss when they host the New Jersey Devils.
Carolina at NY Islanders 7:00 PM ET
Off to their best start at home in 35 years, the New York Islanders look to continue that run when they host the Metropolitan Division rival Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. The Islanders are 5-0-2 at Barclays Center this season, but they have not enjoyed much success on their home ice against the Hurricanes.
Arizona at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens have bounced back from a wretched start to the season by earning points in five of their last six games, but scoring continues to be an issue. The offensively challenged Canadiens continue a six-game homestand Thursday night when they host the Arizona Coyotes -- owners of the worst record in the NHL.
Pittsburgh at Ottawa 7:30 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators have had plenty of time to reflect on their successful trek to Sweden last week, but even more time to dwell on last spring's double-overtime loss to Pittsburgh in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals. Bobby Ryan is expected to return to the lineup Thursday as the host Senators hope to exact a bit of revenge against the two-time reigning Stanley Cup-champion Penguins.
Dallas at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
Dallas goaltender Ben Bishop returns for the first time to the place where he became a two-time Vezina Trophy finalist when the inconsistent Stars visit the red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night. Bishop won a club-record 131 games in five seasons with the Lightning before being dealt to Los Angeles around the trade deadline last season and signing with Dallas in May after another deal.
Nashville at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
Stringing together shutouts has become an annual event for Devan Dubnyk as the Minnesota goaltender tries for his fourth consecutive game without allowing a goal when the Wild host the red-hot Nashville Predators on Thursday. Dubnyk stopped 30 shots in Minnesota's 3-0 victory over Philadelphia on Tuesday, setting a club record with a run of 195 minutes, 5 seconds and breaking his old mark of 183:16 set last season during a string of three straight shutouts.
Philadelphia at Winnipeg 8:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers have not scored a goal in 156 minutes, 9 seconds, so putting a puck in the back of the net is objective number one entering Thursday’s road contest at the Winnipeg Jets. The Flyers were shut out in back-to-back games while dropping a home-and-home series against Minnesota, and are looking to avoid being shut out in three consecutive games for the first time in team history.
Washington at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche try to snap a six-game losing streak against Washington when they host the Capitals on Thursday with two players acquired in the Matt Duchene trade set to make their home debuts. The Pepsi Center crowd will welcome defenseman Samuel Girard and Vladimir Kamenev, who is expected to center a line with fellow Russian Nail Yakupov and Sven Andrighetto.
St. Louis at Edmonton 9:00 PM ET
One of the NHL stingiest defensive teams suddenly can't stop the opposition while the league's least productive offense finally broke out of its season-long doldrums. The St. Louis Blues will look to tighten up their defense when they resume their three-game Western Canada road trip against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.
Vegas at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Vegas Golden Knights have seen the wheels come off after a blistering start to the season, with the expansion club being humbled in its last game. After being taken to task by one Pacific Division rival, Vegas will try its luck against another as it visits the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday looking to avert a seventh loss in nine contests.
Boston at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings have seen their fortunes at Staples Center take a turn for the worse during their five-game homestand. Los Angeles looks to end a three-game slide on home ice when it hosts the Boston Bruins on Thursday.
Florida at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The Florida Panthers received a much-needed boost from a shootout victory before embarking on a difficult California trip that begins with a matchup against the surging San Jose Sharks on Thursday night. Florida rallied to tie Dallas in the third period, weathered the storm in overtime and got the winner from Vincent Trocheck in the bonus format for a 4-3 victory Tuesday to avoid owning sole possession of last place in the Atlantic Division.
