Preview Roundups
March 02, 2017
NY Rangers at Boston 7:00 PM ET
Their momentum slowed by a pair of decisive losses to Metropolitan Division foes, the New York Rangers look to get back on track when they visit the Boston Bruins on Thursday night in a matchup of Original Six rivals. The Rangers dominated the Bruins in two early-season matchups with a pair of 5-2 victories in a 10-day span.
Arizona at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres have been playing themselves out of playoff contention with their current four-game slide (0-3-1) but have a chance to avenge one of those defeats Thursday as they host the Arizona Coyotes. Buffalo, which trails Toronto by six points for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, dropped a 3-2 decision in Arizona on Sunday.
Florida at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The Florida Panthers added quite the punch to their bid for the postseason by acquiring veteran forward Thomas Vanek prior to the trade deadline. The 33-year-old Vanek is expected to suit up for his fifth team in six seasons on Thursday as the Panthers visit the Philadelphia Flyers.
New Jersey at Washington 7:00 PM ET
In a move that would get a nod from President Donald Trump, the Washington Capitals adopted a rich-get-richer approach at the trade deadline by acquiring defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk from St. Louis on Monday. Washington steamrolled the New York Rangers in Shattenkirk's debut the following night and will open a three-game homestand against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.
Minnesota at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild made their big move a few days before the trade deadline and their focus now is on getting healthy as the Western Conference leaders prepare to host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night. Center Martin Hanzal was acquired from Arizona on Sunday and produced two points in two games for Minnesota, which is short-handed with veteran forwards Jason Pominville and Zach Parise recovering from the mumps.
Nashville at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
Just when it appeared the Montreal Canadiens were about to relinquish their hold on first place in the Atlantic Division, they have rebounded with their longest winning streak since rattling off three straight victories to open the new year. Montreal goes for its fourth win in a row when it hosts the surging Nashville Predators on Thursday.
Colorado at Ottawa 7:30 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators didn't make a big splash at Wednesday's trade deadline, but they appear to be in good shape as they continue their pursuit of an Atlantic Division title Thursday against the struggling Colorado Avalanche. Ottawa's biggest moves were acquiring Viktor Stalberg from Carolina on Tuesday and Alex Burrows from Vancouver on Monday, and both are expected to be in the lineup with Burrows already receiving a two-year contract extension worth $2.5 million per season.
NY Islanders at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The New York Islanders began the Doug Weight era by posting a 3-0 victory over the Dallas Stars on Jan. 19 to ignite an impressive 12-4-2 run before a disastrous 7-0 shellacking by Columbus in their last outing. With five days to lick their wounds, the Islanders look to pick up the pieces in Dallas on Thursday when they begin a stretch of six contests in 10 days to conclude their franchise-high nine-game road trip.
Toronto at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
Los Angeles Kings coach Darryl Sutter is banking that a familiar face has more in reserve in a bid to help ignite his sputtering team's offense. Veteran Jarome Iginla, who played under Sutter during Calgary's run to the Stanley Cup final in 2004, was acquired prior to the trade deadline and is expected to be in the lineup Thursday as the Kings host the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Vancouver at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The streaking San Jose Sharks look to continue their dominance of the Vancouver Canucks this season and extend their point streak to eight games on Thursday when they host their spiraling Pacific Division rivals. Although it has dropped six straight home contests versus Vancouver, San Jose began February by hitting the road for a 4-1 triumph over the Canucks and skated to victory by the same score on Saturday to start its current two-game winning streak and highlight a 4-0-3 stretch.
