Preview Roundups
February 24, 2018
Philadelphia at Ottawa 2:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers inserted recent trade acquisition Petr Mrazek into the lineup and didn't miss a beat, extending their winning and point streaks to four and 10 games (8-0-2), respectively. The Flyers take their show on the road for a matinee tilt on Saturday at Canadian Tire Centre against the Ottawa Senators, who have dropped three in a row.
Colorado at Calgary 4:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames need to find a way to translate their success on the road to their home rink when they host the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday afternoon. Calgary snapped a three-game slide with a 5-2 victory at league-worst Arizona on Thursday, but it has recorded only one win in its last eight games (1-3-4) at Scotiabank Saddledome.
NY Islanders at New Jersey 6:15 PM ET
Knowing they can't be reliant on star forward Taylor Hall to provide points in every game, the New Jersey Devils made a move to beef up their offense in a rare trade with one of their neighboring rivals. Michael Grabner, acquired from the New York Rangers on Thursday, will make his debut for New Jersey on Saturday night against the visiting New York Islanders.
Winnipeg at Dallas 7:00 PM ET
The Winnipeg Jets attempt to climb into a tie for first place in the Central Division when they visit the Dallas Stars on Saturday. Winnipeg pulled within two points of idle Nashville with Friday's 4-0 triumph at St. Louis as Connor Hellebuyck made 34 saves en route to his sixth shutout - one shy of the league lead.
Boston at Toronto 7:00 PM ET
The Toronto Maple Leafs' uphill climb to catch the top two teams in the Atlantic Division became even steeper after superstar Auston Matthews suffered a shoulder injury in Thursday's win over the New York Islanders. It's unclear how long Matthews will be sidelined for Toronto, which goes for its ninth straight home win versus the Boston Bruins on Saturday.
Tampa Bay at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning continue to post victories while showing weaknesses and hope for a better 60-minute performance Saturday night when they visit the Montreal Canadiens for an Atlantic Division battle. The Lightning have been outshot 73-43 in the first two legs of a three-game road trip, but came away with a 4-2 win at Washington on Tuesday and survived a rally to post a 4-3 triumph at Ottawa on Thursday.
Carolina at Detroit 7:00 PM ET
Despite their current four-game slide (0-3-1), the Carolina Hurricanes are in a tight battle for a wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. They hope to climb into the second spot when they begin a three-game road trip Saturday against the Detroit Red Wings, who still have playoff aspirations of their own.
Pittsburgh at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The Florida Panthers look to continue their surge toward a playoff position in the Eastern Conference when they host the red-hot Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. The Panthers have won eight of their last 11 games after rallying for a 3-2 victory over Washington on Thursday that followed an emotional pregame ceremony to honor those lost in the school shooting in nearby Parkland, Fla.
Buffalo at Washington 7:00 PM ET
Once comfortably atop the Metropolitan Division, the Washington Capitals have dropped 10 of their last 16 contests (6-6-4) to see both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia find their way into the mix. The Capitals look to get back on track on Saturday as they bid for a season series victory over the visiting Buffalo Sabres, who own a 5-0-1 mark in their last six road games.
Chicago at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets still are hanging on to the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference despite a scoring slump and look to begin turning things around when they host the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. The Blue Jackets have produced a total of nine goals in their last five games while going just 1-3-1 and have won just five of their last 17 contests.
Anaheim at Arizona 8:00 PM ET
The Anaheim Ducks are starting to realize the potential that many believed would make them a Stanley Cup finals contender as they visit the improving Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. Anaheim shut out Dallas 2-0 on Wednesday for its season-high fourth straight victory, moving into third place in the Pacific Division with backup goaltender Ryan Miller a big reason for the uprising.
Edmonton at Los Angeles 10:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings saw their three-game winning streak end with an offensive whimper, as they mustered just 18 shots en route to being shut out to begin a three-game homestand. The Kings look to get it in gear in Saturday's tilt versus the Edmonton Oilers, against whom they had no issue scoring in their first two encounters.
