Preview Roundups
January 12, 2019
Kansas State at Iowa State 12:00 PM ET
After sputtering to an 0-2 start to Big 12 Conference play that included a 16-point home loss to Texas, Kansas State rebounded in a big way on Wednesday night by rallying from a 21-point second-half deficit to defeat West Virginia. The Wildcats, who return most of the key pieces from a team that advanced to the Elite Eight last season, can get back to the .500 mark in conference play on Saturday afternoon when they visit No. 21 Iowa State.
Oklahoma State at West Virginia 12:00 PM ET
West Virginia blew a 21-point second-half lead last time out to suffer its third straight single-digit loss to begin conference play. Off to their worst start in Big 12 action since joining it in 2012, the Mountaineers are in dire need of a victory when they host Oklahoma State on Saturday.
Boston College at Notre Dame 12:00 PM ET
Two teams searching for their first conference win collide on Saturday afternoon when Boston College visits Notre Dame. Both teams lost to No. 7 Virginia Tech in their ACC openers, with the Eagles losing to top-ranked Virginia on Wednesday and the Fighting Irish falling at home to Syracuse last Saturday.
Virginia at Clemson 12:00 PM ET

Top-ranked Virginia takes its undefeated record on the road to Clemson for an ACC matchup on Saturday. The Cavaliers have won 12 straight true road games -the longest streak in the nation - and 11 consecutive ACC road contests dating to 2017.

Pittsburgh at NC State 12:00 PM ET
It took a record-setting performance by a freshman to snap Pittsburgh's long losing streak in ACC action. Trey McGowens and his teammates will try to follow his brilliant performance on Saturday when they visit No. 16 North Carolina State, which is coming off a loss to 12th-ranked North Carolina.
Louisville at North Carolina 12:00 PM ET
No. 12 North Carolina looks to follow up its impressive road win over No. 16 North Carolina State on Tuesday as it hosts Louisville on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals are looking to rebound from a mid-week road loss at Pittsburgh where the Panthers broke a 23-game ACC regular-season losing streak.
Providence at Georgetown 12:00 PM ET
Providence will try to avoid falling in a big hole in the game and the Big East standings when it visits Georgetown on Saturday. The Friars couldn't overcome a slow start against Villanova last Saturday and as a result are the only winless squad in the league heading into a matchup with the Hoyas.
Miami (OH) at Buffalo 12:00 PM ET
Buffalo has made easy work out of a pair of Mid-American Conference opponents and will attempt to make it three in a row Saturday when it hosts Miami (Ohio). The No. 20 Bulls earned their latest win against Toledo by scoring 110 points, a school record in a MAC game, and now turn their sights to the RedHawks - one of three MAC teams to beat them last season.
Rutgers at Minnesota 12:30 PM ET
Minnesota looks to bounce back from its first loss in over a month when it hosts Rutgers on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Gophers blew an eight-point second half lead in an 82-67 setback to Maryland on Tuesday to see their six-game winning streak come to an abrupt end, and hope to stay in the top half of the Big Ten standings by downing the Scarlet Knights in Minneapolis for the fifth consecutive time.
Missouri at South Carolina 1:00 PM ET

A day later than expected, Missouri will visit South Carolina on Sunday for an intriguing SEC contest. The game was scheduled for Saturday but had to be postponed because of a snowstorm in the midwest that derailed the Tigers’ travel plans.

Mississippi at Mississippi State 1:00 PM ET
Ole Miss was picked to finish last in the SEC preseason media poll but the Rebels and first-year coach Kermit Davis have other ideas as they visit No. 14 Mississippi State on Saturday. Ole Miss opened conference play with a road victory at Vanderbilt - matching their win total in SEC away games last season - and followed that with a resounding 82-67 victory over No. 10 Auburn on Wednesday.
Texas Tech at Texas 2:00 PM ET
No. 8 Texas Tech is putting together a special season, but perhaps its biggest hurdle will be Saturday when it visits Texas in a game that will feature two suffocating defenses. The Red Raiders, who are looking to improve to 15-1 for only the second time in program history (1995-96) and 4-0 in Big 12 play for only the second time (2003-04), are seeking to snap a 22-game losing streak in Austin that dates to 1996.
Texas Christian at Oklahoma 2:00 PM ET
No. 22 Oklahoma will look to keep its perfect home record intact Saturday when the Sooners welcome TCU to Norman. TCU saw a nine-game win streak end Wednesday in a 77-68 road loss to No. 9 Kansas as the Horned Frogs gave up 24 points to the Jayhawks on a season-high 20 turnovers.
Wake Forest at Miami-Florida 2:00 PM ET
Wake Forest and Miami did not get their ACC seasons off to auspicious starts and they are still seeking their first league victories. The two will meet up in South Florida on Saturday afternoon with a chance to finally get in the win column and put their seasons back on track.
Seton Hall at Marquette 2:00 PM ET
Seton Hall will have its turn at trying to slow down Marquette junior Markus Howard on Saturday, when the Pirates look to hand the No. 19 Golden Eagles their first home loss of the season. Howard went 10-for-14 from downtown on his way to a Big East-record 53 points in Marquette’s 106-104 overtime victory Wednesday against Creighton.
Duke at Florida State 2:00 PM ET
Second-ranked Duke was criticized for playing no true road games in its non-conference schedule, but the Blue Devils will be plenty tested on enemy courts in ACC play as they prepare to visit No. 13 Florida State on Saturday afternoon. Duke met four ranked teams in neutral locations during the first two months of the season - losing only to Gonzaga - and rolled over Wake Forest 87-65 in its first true road game Tuesday.
South Florida at Temple 2:00 PM ET
Temple earned a statement victory its last time out, but the Owls have another challenge Saturday when they host South Florida. Temple handed Houston its first loss of the season earlier this week and enters this matchup having won five of its last six.
Ohio St. at Iowa 2:30 PM ET
Two big question marks surround the Big Ten matchup between No. 17 Ohio State and No. 25 Iowa on Saturday afternoon in Iowa City. Will the Buckeyes be able to bounce back from a surprising loss on the road earlier this week to Rutgers, and will the Hawkeyes be forced to play without their leading scorer and rebounder for the second consecutive game?
Texas A&M at Alabama 3:30 PM ET
Alabama began SEC play with an upset win at home over No. 18 Kentucky last weekend, but the true measure of how good fourth-year coach Avery Johnson's team can be may not be known for at least another three weeks. The Crimson Tide face perhaps their least difficult opponent over a challenging seven-game span Saturday when they host Texas A&M.
Georgia at Auburn 4:00 PM ET
No. 10 Auburn looked like a team that had not played in 11 days during an upset loss at Ole Miss on Wednesday, so the Tigers' goal is to refocus and rebound from their third defeat of the season at home Saturday against Georgia in an SEC game. Auburn made only eight baskets inside the 3-point line and despite 23 points (on 24 shots) from Bryce Brown, the Tigers could not rally from a 13-point halftime deficit while shooting 32.8 percent from the field and committed 16 turnovers.
Kansas at Baylor 4:00 PM ET
Kansas may not have the size or perimeter shooting it has become accustomed to under coach Bill Self, but Dedric Lawson's dominant play has been enough more often than not. The Big 12's second-leading scorer and its top rebounder will attempt to add to what has been a stellar start to his junior season Saturday when the ninth-ranked Jayhawks visit Baylor.
Tulsa at Southern Methodist 6:00 PM ET
SMU returns home looking for its shooting touch Saturday when Tulsa pays a visit for an American Athletic Conference contest. The Mustangs' strong 3-point shooting disappeared as they saw a four-game win streak end at Connecticut on Thursday.
DePaul at St. John's 6:00 PM ET
After it failed to take down Big East giant - and defending national champion - Villanova its last time out, No. 23 St. John's will try its hand against one the league's perennial also-rans when DePaul visits Saturday. The Red Storm were coming off a dramatic overtime win at Georgetown and led the Wildcats by five with under four minutes remaining Tuesday night before falling apart down the stretch.
Tennessee at Florida 6:00 PM ET
No. 3 Tennessee is on a roll with nine straight victories and moving up the rankings heading into the first of two meetings with SEC rival Florida. The Volunteers have lost just once this season and are aiming for their first 10-game winning streak since the 2007-08 campaign, but they have lost their last three matchups in Gainesville and five of the last seven overall in this rivalry.
Louisiana State at Arkansas 6:00 PM ET
LSU looks to extend its current four-game winning streak when it travels to face Arkansas Saturday for an SEC contest. The Tigers won their league opener Tuesday, topping Alabama 88-79, while the Arkansas is coming off a 57-51 setback at home against Florida on Wednesday.
Georgia Tech at Syracuse 6:00 PM ET
Syracuse has used stifling defense to win its opening two ACC games for the first time in four seasons, and the Orange seek their fifth consecutive victory overall Saturday against visiting Georgia Tech. The Orange, who rank in the top 25 nationally in scoring defense and turnover margin, scored 20 points off 17 forced turnovers Wednesday in a 61-53 home victory over Clemson, mixing in press defense that helped offset an offense that hit just 7-of-22 shots in the second half.
Arizona State at Stanford 6:00 PM ET
Predicting Arizona State’s starting lineup can be a fool’s errand, but sophomore guard Remy Martin removed some of the mystery with his last outing. Martin looks to build on his breakout performance on Saturday when the Sun Devils continue their Bay Area swing against Stanford, which has opened Pac-12 play with three straight losses.
Wichita St. at Houston 8:00 PM ET
Wichita State's inexperience will be challenged again Saturday when it travels to face the tough defense of 15th-ranked Houston. The Cougars own one of the nation's top defenses while the Shockers have committed 35 turnovers in two American Athletic Conference games.
Connecticut at Cincinnati 8:00 PM ET
Cincinnati was fortunate in many ways to escape its road trip with a 1-1 record. Back home, the Bearcats aim to defeat Connecticut on Saturday when the American Athletic Conference foes square off.
Washington St. at Utah 8:00 PM ET

Utah got the worst of the meeting with a tough Washington zone defense Thursday night, scoring a season-low 53 points in a 16-point home loss. The Runnin’ Utes will now try to bounce back Saturday against a visiting and slumping Washington State team which has surrendered at least 75 points in each outing of its current five-game skid.

Nevada at Fresno St. 8:00 PM ET
No. 11 Nevada bounced back from a shockingly lopsided 85-58 loss at New Mexico with a 39-point victory over San Jose State. Now the two-time defending regular-season Mountain West champions embark on arguably their toughest road trip of the conference season, starting with a Saturday night contest at Fresno State.
Vanderbilt at Kentucky 8:30 PM ET
Kentucky bounced back from a disappointing loss in its SEC opener and will try to keep the momentum going when it hosts struggling Vanderbilt on Saturday. The No. 18 Wildcats watched Texas A&M score the first 10 points Tuesday before rallying for an 85-74 victory behind 18 points, five assists and five steals from freshman guard Ashton Hagans after they were upset 77-75 at Alabama last Saturday.
Gonzaga at San Francisco 10:00 PM ET
Sixth-ranked Gonzaga has been rolling through opponents but perhaps could receive some competition on Saturday when it visits San Francisco in West Coast Conference play. The Bulldogs and Dons are the lone undefeated teams in the WCC, so Gonzaga's streak of six straight 30-point wins could be in jeopardy.
Washington at Colorado 10:00 PM ET

Washington is heating up at a good time as it has carried its season-best four-game win streak into Pac-12 play. Next up for the surging Huskies is Saturday night’s road test at Colorado.

Arizona at California 10:30 PM ET
Arizona received a scare when starting guard Justin Coleman appeared to reinjure his left shoulder earlier this week, but the senior is expected to be available Saturday against host California. Coleman dislocated his shoulder in practice on Dec. 31 but played a season-high 39 minutes in Wednesday’s 75-70 win over Stanford, finishing with nine points and four assists.
