Preview Roundups
September 24, 2017
Minnesota at Detroit 12:10 PM ET
The Minnesota Twins are getting their offense back on track at the expense of the Detroit Tigers pitching staff and are closing in on the second American League wild card. The Twins will try to ride their hot bats to a four-game sweep when they visit the Tigers for the finale on Sunday.
NY Yankees at Toronto 1:07 PM ET
The New York Yankees are back in the postseason and will complete the road portion of their schedule when they finish a three-game series at the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. A 5-1 win Saturday afternoon propelled the Yankees to the playoffs for the 19th time in 23 years, although they will need a near-miraculous comeback to avoid having to participate in the winner-take-all wild-card game.
Boston at Cincinnati 1:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox are taking advantage of the schedule and chipping away at their magic number to clinch the American League East. The Red Sox will try to pull off a three-game sweep and earn their sixth consecutive victory when they visit the Cincinnati Reds for the finale of an interleague set on Sunday.
Washington at NY Mets 1:10 PM ET
A pair of 15-game winners square off Sunday afternoon when the New York Mets host the Washington Nationals in the finale of a three-game series. The Mets will give the ball to ace Jacob deGrom, who was slated to start Friday's series opener but was pushed back due to an upset stomach.
Philadelphia at Atlanta 1:35 PM ET
The Atlanta Braves had not produced much success against the Philadelphia Phillies this year until late last month, but they have a chance to end the season series with five straight victories. The Braves can finish a three-game sweep and win for the fourth straight time overall when they host the National League East rival Phillies on Sunday afternoon to complete their home schedule.
St. Louis at Pittsburgh 1:35 PM ET

The St. Louis Cardinals will have a chance to make up ground with head-to-head contests against their chief competition in the National League Central next week, but they need to prevent the hole they are in from getting any deeper. The Cardinals wrap up a three-game road series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, hoping to hold their ground in the division as well as in the wild-card race.

Tampa Bay at Baltimore 1:35 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays need a lot of help and a near-perfect finish to reach the postseason, but they are intent on ending 2017 strong as they go for a series victory against the host Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Tampa Bay is five games behind Minnesota for the American League’s second wild card with seven to play but flexed its muscles by scoring 17 runs while winning its last two contests.
Kansas City at Chi. White Sox 2:10 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals are clinging to American League wild card hopes and cannot afford any more losses. The Royals will try to take advantage of a team well out of the race and earn a series win when they visit the Chicago White Sox for the rubber match of a three-game series on Sunday.
Chi. Cubs at Milwaukee 2:10 PM ET

After three straight extra-inning contests, the visiting Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers wrap up their critical four-game series Sunday afternoon. The Brewers snapped a three-game skid with a 4-3 win Saturday, at least temporarily keeping alive their hopes of catching the Cubs in the National League Central.

Texas at Oakland 4:05 PM ET
The red-hot Oakland Athletics have been putting a damper on the Texas Rangers' postseason hopes and look to continue playing spoiler when they host the finale of their three-game set on Sunday. Texas entered the series 2 1/2 games behind Minnesota for the second wild-card spot in the American League but has fallen 4 1/2 back with eight remaining following two straight losses.
Cleveland at Seattle 4:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians suffered a rare road loss Friday when their offense uncharacteristically struggled, but such blips have been few and far between over the last month for the American League's top team. The Indians look to win a ninth straight series and improve to 29-2 over 31 contests on Sunday when they face the host Seattle Mariners in the rubber match of their three-game set.
Miami at Arizona 4:10 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks were fortunate to split the first two games of their series against the Miami Marlins after allowing a total of 23 runs. Arizona looks to silence Miami's bats - and clinch one of the two wild-card spots in the National League - when it hosts the rubber match on Sunday.
San Francisco at LA Dodgers 4:10 PM ET
Along with trying to avoid the dreaded 100-loss mark, the San Francisco Giants are playing with an eye toward the future during the season’s final week. The Giants hope to build on one of their best efforts Sunday, when they face the host Los Angeles Dodgers in the rubber match of their three-game series.
Colorado at San Diego 4:40 PM ET
In one of the great mysteries of this season’s final weeks, the Colorado Rockies’ explosive offense has gone missing at the worst possible time. Colorado heads into the finale of its four-game series against the host San Diego Padres on Sunday having been shut out in three of its last four contests.
LA Angels at Houston 8:05 PM ET
The Los Angeles Angels conceded the American League West to the Houston Astros some time ago and, given their recent play, they appear to be on the verge of losing any chance of competing for a wild-card berth as well. The Angels try to avoid a season-worst seventh straight defeat when they conclude their season series in Houston with the Astros on Sunday.
