Preview Roundups
August 22, 2018
Baltimore at Toronto 12:37 PM ET
Teams have taken turns beating up on the Baltimore Orioles this season, but the Toronto Blue Jays have taken it to another level against their American League East rivals. The Blue Jays have won nine in a row against the Orioles and vie for their third consecutive series sweep of Baltimore in Wednesday afternoon's finale of a three-game set at Rogers Centre.
Minnesota at Chi. White Sox 2:10 PM ET
Former MVP Joe Mauer is approaching two major milestones as his Minnesota Twins go for a two-game sweep Wednesday afternoon, when they visit the American League Central-rival Chicago White Sox. Mauer recorded two hits in Tuesday’s 5-2 victory and is one away of tying Hall-of-Famer Rod Carew (2,085) for second place on the franchise list while pulling within one run of 1,000 for his career.
Cincinnati at Milwaukee 2:10 PM ET
Scooter Gennett helped deal his former teammates a discouraging setback and looks to follow up his strong performance when the Cincinnati Reds visit the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday afternoon for the finale of their three-game series. Gennett hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the ninth inning on Tuesday as the Reds handed Milwaukee a 9-7 loss.
Texas at Oakland 3:35 PM ET
The Oakland Athletics have posted a 5-0-1 series record since being swept in Colorado in late July and look to complete their second sweep in that stretch when they host the Texas Rangers on Wednesday afternoon for the finale of their three-game set. Oakland has won 42 of its last 56 contests, including 15 of its last 19 after posting its second straight shutout victory on Tuesday.
Houston at Seattle 4:10 PM ET
Jose Altuve didn't get a hit in his first game following a 21-game absence, but the Houston Astros returned to their winning ways. Altuve will be in the lineup for the finale of Houston's three-game series against the host Seattle Mariners on Wednesday afternoon after going 0-for-3 in Tuesday's 3-2 victory.
Philadelphia at Washington 7:05 PM ET
Washington Nationals owner Mark D. Lerner told fans in an open letter that management "gambled" on the team making a run for the postseason as its reasoning to stand pat at the trade deadline. The gamble didn't pay off in the eyes of Lerner, but the Nationals (63-63) showed some moxie in posting their third win in nine outings heading into Wednesday's tilt with the visiting Philadelphia Phillies (68-57).
Atlanta at Pittsburgh 7:05 PM ET
There has been criticism levied at Dansby Swanson for his offensive struggles this season, but the Atlanta Braves shortstop is finding his rhythm with the bat at just the right time entering Wednesday’s series finale at the Pittsburgh Pirates. Swanson, who has stayed in the starting lineup thanks mostly to his defensive work, recorded the first multi-homer game of his career in Tuesday’s 6-1 victory and is hitting .360 with three homers and 10 RBIs during a seven-game hitting streak.
Cleveland at Boston 7:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox have matched their longest losing streak of the season and will be looking to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat when they host the Cleveland Indians in the third of a four-game series on Wednesday night. Boston dropped a 6-3 decision on Tuesday, marking the first time they've lost three in a row since April 21-24 at Oakland and Toronto.
Kansas City at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays are on an impressive roll on the mound and have a great chance to maintain that trend when they continue a four-game series at home with the punchless Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. The Rays extended a scoreless streak to 27 innings - tying a franchise record - before riding ace Blake Snell to a 4-1 victory Tuesday.
NY Yankees at Miami 7:10 PM ET
Miguel Andujar has been heating up with the calendar, with the rookie batting .325 since the start of July to help the New York Yankees move 33 games above .500 for the first time since 2011. Andujar aims to keep his personal hot streak going on Wednesday as the Yankees (79-46) bid to complete a sweep of an abbreviated two-game series of the Miami Marlins (50-77) in South Florida.
San Francisco at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets will try to build off a late offensive eruption when they play the third of a four-game series with the visiting San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. After going 18 straight innings without a run, the Mets scored twice in the seventh and four times in the eighth to steal a 6-3 win Tuesday night.
Chi. Cubs at Detroit 7:10 PM ET

There was all kinds of breaking news surrounding the Chicago Cubs to start the week, but one thing remained unchanged - their offensive struggles. The Cubs hope the arrival of Daniel Murphy from Washington will help kick start their offense in the finale of a two-game road set against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.

San Diego at Colorado 8:40 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies' quest for a division title stalled in the series opener, but they attempt to get back on track when they host the San Diego Padres on Wednesday for the middle contest of their three-game set. After sweeping a four-game series in Atlanta to get within one-half game of first-place Arizona in the National League West, Colorado returned home and dropped a 4-3 decision on Tuesday.
LA Angels at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
David Peralta has been one of the top players in the National League this month, and he looks to follow up a superb performance when the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday for the finale of their two-game interleague series. Peralta went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double, three RBIs and a walk as Arizona edged the Angels 5-4 on Tuesday.
St. Louis at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
The surging St. Louis Cardinals will have a familiar face in the clubhouse Wednesday when they look to complete a three-game sweep of the host Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cardinals have won 12 of their last 14 games and bolstered their offense with the addition of Matt Adams, who returns to his former team when a trade was worked out Tuesday after he was claimed off waivers from Washington.
