Wayne Simmonds scored a goal against his former team and Claude Giroux added a breakaway goal in the third period as the visiting Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 on Thursday to win consecutive games for the first time this season.

Ivan Provorov, Oskar Lindblom and Robert Hagg also scored goals for the Flyers, who have won the first two games on their four-game trip through the NHL's Pacific Division. Philadelphia beat the Ducks 3-2 in Anaheim on Tuesday.

Simmonds, a second-round selection by the Kings in 2007, had a quick reply once Los Angeles tied the game 1-1 midway through the second period. A mere 49 seconds after Jeff Carter had scored a goal for the Kings, Simmonds answered in front of the L.A. goal off a feed from Lindblom.

Simmonds scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season, but just his first over the last five games. He last scored a goal Oct. 20 against the New Jersey Devils.

After the Kings failed to score on a two-man advantage for 1 minute, 35 seconds in the opening period, the Flyers took a 1-0 lead on a goal from Provorov at the 17:35 mark. Dale Weise, after first fanning on a shot, delivered a centering pass to Provorov from the side of the Kings' net, and the defenseman buried the puck past Los Angeles goalie Jack Campbell.

Lindblom scored a goal at 14:05 of the second period that had a bit of controversy attached. Lindblom could be seen kicking the puck in the Kings' goal with his left skate, but on replay it was determined that the goal counted because the puck ended up deflecting off the stick of the Kings' Sean Walker before crossing the goal line.

Lindblom's goal, which gave the Flyers a 3-1 lead, was his third of the season.

Kings left wing Ilya Kovalchuk cut the Flyers' lead to 3-2 when he scored at 18:41 of the second period. Kovalchuk's initial shot was saved by Flyers goalie Brian Elliott, but the left winger regained control off the rebound and scored to the short side. Kovalchuk's fourth goal gave him a Kings team-leading 10 points.

Giroux's fourth goal of the season came at 14:27 of the third period and gave the Flyers a 4-2 advantage. Hagg scored his third of the season into an empty net from behind his own blue line at the 16:49 mark of the closing period.

The Kings, who have lost seven of their last eight games, were without goalie Jonathan Quick, who had surgery to repair a torn meniscus and will miss at least four weeks.

Campbell had 26 saves in goal for the Kings. Elliott had 25 saves in the victory.
