Eli Manning threw for 243 yards and a touchdown and Brandon Jacobs rushed for a score as the New York Giants held off the host Washington Redskins 17-14 on Sunday.
Mario Manningham caught four passes for 101 yards for the Giants (10-6), who had their playoff hopes dashed minutes before the end of the game when the Green Bay Packers completed a 10-3 victory over the Chicago Bears to clinch the final NFC wild card spot.
New York grabbed a 10-0 lead in the second quarter when Jacobs burst through the right side for a 2-yard score, capping a nine-play, 69-yard drive.
The Redskins came right back, driving 80 yards and cutting it to 10-7 just before the half when Rex Grossman found Fred Davis for a 1-yard touchdown.
Manning and Manningham hooked up early in the third, with Manningham finding his way behind the defense on a 92-yard scoring pass. Washington cut it to three points with a touchdown late in the fourth and had the ball back with a chance at the end, but could not get in position for a tying field goal.
After being plagued by turnovers over the last two weeks, the Giants were the ones forcing the miscues on Sunday, intercepting Grossman once and forcing him to fumble twice.
