Moses Wright's 24 points propelled Georgia Tech to a much-needed 71-65 home victory against Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon in Atlantic Coast Conference action in Atlanta.

The Yellow Jackets (10-8, 6-6 ACC) shook off Friday's deflating two-point loss at the buzzer to Clemson, and avoided what would have been a major setback to their hopes of breaking through to the NCAA Tournament field.

Pitt (9-7, 5-6), which hadn't played in eight days after having its previous game against Louisville postponed, lost for the fifth time in its past six games.

Georgia Tech senior guard and leading scorer Jose Alvarado, who missed a pair of late free throws in the loss at Clemson, bounced back against the Panthers with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Pitt had its chances to claim the lead and perhaps victory late but couldn't come up with the big stop or score.

The Panthers used a 9-0 run to tie the game at 55 with 4:36 left.

Michael Devoe, who had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, answered with a 3-pointer at the other end to put the Yellow Jackets back in front.

The Panthers cut the deficit again to 60-59 before Devoe hit a pair of free throws to start a 7-0 run that effectively put the game out of reach.

Georgia Tech was clutch at the foul line throughout the game, making 21 of 23 free throws.

Pitt put together a balanced effort with four players scoring in double figures led by Ithiel Horton's 18 points. Au'Diese Toney had 15 points and nine rebounds while Justin Champagnie and Xavier Johnson each had 13 points.

But the Panthers committed 12 of their 18 turnovers in the first half including a couple of costly ones during the Yellow Jackets' final push in the closing minutes.

Georgia Tech led 33-22 early in the second half, but quick triples by Horton and Toney kept the Yellow Jackets from pulling away.

For the Yellow Jackets, guard Jordan Usher left the game with 8:52 left in the second half with a sprained right ankle and did not return.
