Junior guard D.J. Hogg scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half as No. 16 Texas A&M cruised to a 72-55 victory over Oklahoma State on Monday in the Legends Classic at New York.
Aggies sophomore power forward Robert Williams added 11 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots in his return from a suspension. Senior center Tonny Trocha-Morelos scored 12 points for the Aggies (3-0), who will face either Penn State or Pittsburgh in Tuesday's championship game at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Texas A&M built a 17-point halftime edge and led by as many as 24 before finishing off the Cowboys (3-1), who face the loser of the Penn State-Pitt matchup.
Sophomore guard Brandon Averette scored 10 points for Oklahoma State, which shot just 29.9 percent from field, including 3-for-24 from 3-point range.
Cowboys senior swingman Jeffrey Carroll made his season debut but missed his first nine field-goal attempts and finished with just four points on 2-of-12 shooting. Carroll was held out of Oklahoma State's first three games while the university conducted a review due to the FBI corruption probe that resulted in the indictment of now former assistant coach Lamont Evans.
Carroll made his first field goal of the game to pull the Cowboys within 52-42 with 10:41 remaining. A short time later, the Aggies rolled off 11 consecutive points with junior guard Admon Gilder connecting on back-to-back 3-pointers and Trocha-Morelos following with one to make it 67-45 with 6:07 to play.
Williams missed the first two games for violating Texas A&M policy but he didn't look rusty while scoring nine straight Aggies points during a stretch of the first half, the last two giving Texas A&M an 18-16 advantage.
That dunk by Williams also started a 13-2 push in which Hogg knocked down three 3-pointers as the Aggies took a 29-18 lead.
The Cowboys trailed 39-22 at halftime lead after shooting 25.7 percent from the field, including 1-for-13 from 3-point range.
