Deniz Kilicli scored a season-high 21 points to lead West Virginia past Marshall in the Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic at the Charleston Civic Center.

The Mountaineers (3-3) beat the Thundering Herd (5-4) for the sixth time in the last seven meetings and improved to 30-11 in the series, including 19-5 in Charleston.

Juwan Staten added 12 points for West Virginia, which led 31-25 at halftime. The Mountaineers led by as many at 11 points in the second half.

Marshall was led by D.D. Scarver, who scored 17 points. Elijah Pittman had 16 points and DeAndre Kane chipped in 13 points before fouling out with 45 seconds to play.

West Virginia was 24-of-30 shooting from the foul line.

GAME NOTEBOOK: With 1:37 left in the game and West Virginia up 61-54, Marshall’s Robert Goff was ejected for kicking a West Virginia player and four Mountaineers - Aaric Murray, Terry Henderson, Jabarie Hinds and Eron Harris - were ejected for leaving the bench. … Marshall committed 13 turnovers in the first half. … West Virginia and Marshall met for the 41st time overall and the 24th time in Charleston.
