Notre Dame 64, No. 8 Kentucky 50:
Eric Atkins scored 16 points and Jack Cooley collected 13 and 11 rebounds as the host Fighting Irish upset the Wildcats.

Jerian Grant added 13 points and six assists while Cameron Biedscheid scored 10 points off the bench for Notre Dame (7-1), which has won 41 of its last 42 home games.

Senior Julius Mays scored 16 points while vaunted freshmen Nerlens Noel, Alex Poythress, Archie Goodwin and Willie Cauley-Stein were limited to a total of 22 for Kentucky (4-2).

The Irish shot 55.6 percent in the first half and used their experience to overwhelm the young Wildcats on the inside. Atkins shot 6-for-7 and Cooley was 4-for-6 with seven rebounds as Notre Dame took a 36-25 lead into the break.

Biedscheid buried a 3-pointer with 13:29 left in the game to spark a 10-0 run that pushed the lead to 55-35 with 10:20 to play. Kentucky got within 60-50 with 2:41 remaining but did not get off a shot attempt the rest of the way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Notre Dame football star Manti Te’o was at the game. The Heisman Trophy hopeful fired up the crowd, joined the television broadcast and even helped sweep the floor during a second-half timeout. … Kentucky G Ryan Harrow (illness) returned following a four-game absence and managed two points on 1-of-4 shooting off the bench. … The Irish went 8-for-15 from 3-point range.
