Hank Thorns scored 16 points, and TCU used a late second-half push to hang on for a 57-55 win over Virginia on Friday in the first round of the Paradise Jam.

The Horned Frogs (3-0) now move on to the semifinals against Norfolk State, which beat Drexel earlier in the day.

TCU led by as many as 11 in the first half, but Virginia (2-1) slowly clawed its way back into the game behind Mike Scott, who led the Cavaliers with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Virginia also got 13 points from Joe Harris, who hit a couple of late 3-pointers to keep his team close, but the Horned Frogs made enough free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

J.R. Cadot had 12 points and Garlon Green added 10 for TCU, which improved to 4-10 all-time against teams from the ACC.

Virginia trailed for much of the game until K.T. Harrell’s jumper tied the game at 41-all with just less than eight minutes remaining.

But TCU responded with a quick 7-0 run, capped by Thorns’ 3-pointer from the corner to take a 48-41 lead with 2:49 left.
