Malcolm Delany led the way with 19 points and Jeff Allen added 18 as Virginia Tech escaped with a 76-68 overtime victory over St. Bonaventure on Thursday in Rochester, New York. Erick Green scored 15 points for the Hokies, who shot 50 percent from the floor.

Virginia Tech (7-4) held a 41-28 lead at the break but St. Bonaventure came out strong in the second half, beginning the period on a 19-8 run to pull within 49-47 with 13:40 on the clock. The Hokies pulled away again before the Bonnies went on another run, pulling to within two points with under a minute to play.

Ogo Adegboye briefly played the hero for St. Bonaventure (6-4), knocking down a 3-pointer with 18.4 seconds remaining to force overtime. But Virginia Tech dominated the extra session to grab the win.

Virginia Tech has four losses this season but three have come against Top-25 competition. They have two more games before the ACC kicks into gear with Florida State on January 8. In a down year for the ACC, the Hokies have just as good a shot as anyone to wind up near the top of the pack below No. 1 Duke.
