Josh Smith erupted for a game-high 28 points and 12 rebounds as the Atlanta Hawks maintained their home dominance over Indiana with a 97-87 defeat of the visiting Pacers on Wednesday night.

Smith was a force at both ends of the floor, adding five steals, three assists and three blocks in one of his most complete games of the season. Joe Johnson added 20 points for the Hawks, who have beaten the Pacers nine straight times at Philips Arena.

Danny Granger's 21 points paced Indiana, which fell to 1-8 when scoring fewer than 90 points.

The Pacers found themselves down by 18 points before springing to life in the third quarter. A David West jumper with 7:05 remaining whittled the deficit down to single digits, and Louis Amundsen knocked down a short shot with 1:45 left to make it 75-69.

Smith responded with a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left, and Atlanta led 80-72 entering the fourth.

Indiana threatened early in the final period, but Tracy McGrady knocked down back-to-back shots to preserve Atlanta's double-digit lead and the Hawks cruised from there.

Atlanta jumped all over the visitors in the early going, busting out to a 16-point first quarter lead before going into the second up 32-21. Johnson made sure the Pacers didn't rally, knocking down a layup and burying a 3-pointer near the midway point of the quarter - part of a 16-point first-half performance that gave the Hawks a 59-41 advantage at the break.
