Xander Bogaerts ignited a five-run fourth inning with a home run, and Andrew Benintendi capped it with a three-run double Wednesday night, helping the Red Sox avoid a third consecutive loss to the Cleveland Indians with a 10-4 win in Boston.

Bogaerts hit two homers, and Mitch Moreland added his 15th of the season as the Red Sox got a measure of revenge after the Indians had taken the first two games of the series matching division leaders 5-4 and 6-3.

Edwin Encarnacion, activated earlier in the day from the disabled list, homered twice for the Indians, who had a three-game winning streak snapped.

After Encarnacion's first homer, a two-run shot, had staked the Indians to a lead in the top of the first inning, the Red Sox trailed 2-1 against Cleveland starter Carlos Carrasco (15-7) entering the last of the fourth.

Bogaerts' solo homer with one out tied the game, after which consecutive singles by Ian Kinsler, Brock Holt and Blake Swihart combined to give the Red Sox a 3-2 lead.

After a second out and a walk to Mookie Betts that loaded the bases, Benintendi brought home all three teammates with his double to left field for a 6-2 lead.

Encarnacion's second two-run homer, his 27th of the season, got the Indians within 6-4 in the fifth inning. But Moreland connected with his two-run shot in the sixth, and Bogaerts ran his season total to 19 with his second solo homer in the seventh, allowing the Red Sox to pull away.

The two-homer game was Bogaerts' first since last June against Houston.

Matt Barnes (5-3), who worked a scoreless seventh inning, was credited with the win.

Red Sox starter Brian Johnson was pulled one out into the fifth inning. He was charged with three runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out three.

Bogaerts, Moreland, Kinsler, J.D. Martinez and Jackie Bradley Jr. had two hits apiece for the Red Sox, who snapped their season-worst-tying three-game losing streak.

Encarnacion finished with two runs, two hits and four RBIs for the Indians, whose loss was just the second in their last 11 games.

The multi-homer game was the 32nd of his career.

Francisco Lindor scored ahead of both of Encarnacion's home runs, while Jose Ramirez and Yan Gomes collected two hits apiece for Cleveland.

Carrasco, who had won seven of his last eight decisions, failed to get out of Boston's big fourth inning. He allowed six runs (five earned) and eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out six.
