The Oakland Athletics completed a season-series sweep of the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, riding the 10-strikeout pitching of right-hander Trevor Cahill and a trio of home runs to a 6-0 victory in Oakland, Calif.

After winning 1-0 and 2-1 to open the weekend series, the A's completed a 7-0 run through the Tigers this season, allowing them to sweep consecutive opponents in the season series.

Oakland capped a 7-0 sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays with three straight wins earlier in the week.

Before this week, the A's had recorded just two season-series sweeps of seven or more games in their franchise history.

Cahill (4-2) pitched out of a first-inning jam at the Oakland Alameda Coliseum and gave up just two hits in the next five innings. His 10 strikeouts were two shy of the career best he established in May against Baltimore.

The veteran allowed three hits and walked one in his six innings of work.

Yusmeiro Petit, Lou Trivino and Ryan Buchter completed Oakland's ninth shutout of the season with one scoreless inning apiece.

Khris Davis gave the A's the only run they would need leading off the fourth with his 31st home run of the season, off Tigers starter Francisco Liriano.

Oakland added a second run in the inning on consecutive one-out singles by Matt Olson, Stephen Piscotty and Ramon Laureano.

Matt Chapman made it 4-0 in the seventh with his 15th homer, also scoring Laureano who reached with a leadoff single.

Olson 22nd homer of the season capped the scoring in the eighth. The two-run shot also plated Mark Canha, who had been hit by a pitch.

Liriano (3-6) was pulled after five innings after giving up just two runs and five hits. He walked two and struck out three.

The Tigers' best opportunity to score game in the first after Mike Gerber led off the game with a single and Jose Iglesias reached on an error. With two outs, a walk to Jeimer Candelario loaded the bases but Cahill struck out Jim Adduci to end the threat.

Laureano, promoted from the minors at the start of the series, had three hits for the A's, who won their sixth straight overall and eighth in a row at home.

Oakland completes an eight-game homestand with a pair of interleague games against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Olson scored twice, had two hits and drove in two runs for Oakland, which out-hit Detroit 8-5.

Gerber had two of the Tigers' five hits.
