PHOENIX -- Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo put A.J. Pollock in the seventh spot in the lineup for the first time this season Wednesday, thinking it might "kick-start" his production.

Consider the start kicked.

Pollock had three hits and four RBIs, and his three-run homer in the seventh inning broke open the Diamondbacks' 8-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday at Chase Field.

The center fielder was in a 2-for-22 slump entering the game and had hit .176 in his past 34 games.

"I've been feeling that for two months now," Pollock said when asked if he felt ready to break out. "You feel like you are right there, and stuff doesn't happen for a long time. You just have to stick with it.

"It is a really tough game. But we are winning games, and there are other ways you can contribute to your team. That's what I concentrate on."

The Diamondbacks scored one run in each of the first five innings, with Pollock doubling home a run for a 5-0 lead in the fifth. He lined a three-run homer into the Arizona bullpen in the seventh.

Jake Lamb had two hits and two RBIs, and David Peralta, Paul Goldschmidt and starting pitcher Patrick Corbin added two hits apiece for Arizona.

The Diamondbacks (84-62) took a four-game lead over Colorado (80-66) in the race for the top National League wild card. The Rockies had won the first two games of the four-game series.

"It was a big win for us," Pollock said. "The first two games was a little tough, but we are facing a good team. We win tonight and we have a chance to split the series. It's a big deal."

DJ LeMahieu homered in the sixth inning for the Rockies, who had their six-game winning streak broken -- one victory short of a season high.

Trevor Story added two hits for the Rockies, who are three games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers for the second NL wild card. Colorado also scored on two hits and a groundout in the ninth inning.

J.D. Martinez doubled, walked twice, drove in a run and scored twice for Arizona. He has reached in 17 consecutive games.

Goldschmidt singled in the first inning and doubled in the third, his 1,000th career hit.

"The only thing I care about is us trying to win that game," said Goldschmidt, who was unaware of the landmark hit until it happened. "It's never been a goal to get any individual milestones, so when something like that happens ... But it's just an arbitrary number. I'm glad we won."

Corbin (14-12) won for the fifth time in six starts. He gave up one run and four hits in 6 2/3 innings in his second victory over Colorado in 12 days. He struck out seven and walked two.

"I was able to hit my spots really consistently," Corbin said. "One of the best sinkers I had this season."

Peralta doubled to open the first inning and scored on Lamb's single for a 1-0 lead.

Corbin singled with two outs in the second inning and scored on Peralta's second double to make it 2-0.

Goldschmidt and Martinez hit back-to-back doubles with one out in the third inning.

Corbin and Ketel Marte singled in the fourth inning before Lamb's two-out double made it 4-0 and knocked out Colorado starter German Marquez (10-7).

Marquez gave up four runs and 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out one and did not walk a batter.

"They jumped on him extremely fast, right away," Colorado manager Bud Black said. "First-pitch swings right off the get-go."

Martinez walked and scored on Pollock's one-out double in the fifth.

NOTES: Aside from 1B Paul Goldschmidt, Luis Gonzalez is the only other player in Arizona history with more than 1,000 hits. He had 1,337. ... Colorado RHP German Marquez started against Arizona in each of the six series played between the two this season. Marquez went 0-3 with a 4.59 ERA over 33 1/3 innings in those outings. He gave up seven runs in 15 1/3 innings in three starts at Chase Field. ... Arizona SS/OF Chris Owings (fractured finger) began taking ground balls and working on grip strength. The team is optimistic he will be ready when eligible to return from the 60-day disabled list Sept. 29.
