DETROIT -- Francisco Lindor poked a single up the middle through a drawn-in infield to score Jay Bruce from third base with one out in the ninth inning Friday and give the Cleveland Indians their eighth win in a row, a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers in the first game of a split doubleheader.

Bruce pinch-hit a triple to right center with one out off Detroit closer Shane Greene (3-3) and make a winner out of Cody Allen (2-6) after the Cleveland closer gave up a score-tying single to Mikie Mahtook in the eighth. Lindor's soft liner to center came on an 0-1 pitch.

Allen needed his own relief help, from Joe Smith, after giving up a leadoff single to right to James McCann to open the ninth, a one-out single to Jose Iglesias and a two-out single to left by Alex Presley. Smith came in to get Miguel Cabrera to line out to short to end the game. It was Smith's first save of the season.

Mahtook beat out a two-out topped single to short with runners on first and third in the eighth to bring Detroit back to a 2-2 tie. Francisco Lindor bobbled the ball fielding it running in but it was a difficult chance to begin with.

Indians reliever Bryan Shaw gave up a one-out single to Alex Presley in the eighth plus a two-out single to Nicholas Castellanos, bringing Allen into the game.

Edwin Encarnacion greeted reliever Drew VerHagen with a home run to left leading off the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie. Encarnacion hit a hanging 1-0 slider from VerHagen for his 32nd home run.

Indians starter Carlos Carrasco limited the Tigers to six hits over the first seven innings with no walks and eight strikeouts.

The Tigers squared the score in the fifth when Jose Iglesias hit an RBI double to left center after two-out singles by McCann and JaCoby Jones.

Matt Boyd went the first five innings for Detroit allowing one run on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

He got the first out of the fifth, a ball that glanced off him to third, but Cleveland successfully challenged an out call at first on Brandon Guyer's ground ball to second.

Guyer was ruled safe on a single on the play and scored on singles by Yan Gomes and Giovanny Urshela to give Cleveland a 1-0 lead.
