Evan Longoria belted two homers and knocked in five runs as the visiting Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Houston Astros 14-10 Sunday afternoon to complete a three-game sweep.
Longoria, who had 10 RBIs in the series, hit a two-run home run in the sixth to tie it 7-7 and hammered a three-run blast in the ninth that pushed a one-run lead to four. B.J. Upton homered for the third consecutive day and had four RBIs for the Rays, who have won eight of their last nine games.
Johnny Damon and Longoria each had four hits for the Rays, who had 19 in all to equal their season high.
Jeff Keppinger had three hits, including a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning that gave the Astros an 8-7 lead.
But Matt Joyce’s pinch-hit, two-run double off closer Mark Melancon highlighted a four-run rally in the top of the eighth for the Rays. Casey Kotchman followed with a two-run single for an 11-8 lead.
Reliever J.P. Howell (1-1) gave up Keppinger’s home run, but earned his first victory since Sept. 2, 2009.
Wilton Lopez (1-4) took the loss for Houston, and Melancon blew his third save.
