Gordon Beckham had a run-scoring double and John Danks tossed seven strong innings as the Chicago White Sox recorded a 3-1 triumph over the Boston Red Sox in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Paul Konerko had three hits and scored twice and A.J. Pierzynski added an RBI single for Chicago (74-60), which banged out 13 hits to claim its fourth win a row.
Manny Ramirez went 2-for-4 with two singles in his return to Fenway Park. The slugger helped the Red Sox to a pair of World Series titles during his stay in Beantown.
Danks (13-9) notched his first win since Aug. 11. The 25-year-old left-hander allowed one run and six hits while striking out five in this one.
After Sergio Santos retired the side in order in the eighth inning, Bobby Jenks overcame a leadoff single to secure his 26th save of the season.
Marco Scutaro ripped an RBI single and Bill Hall had two hits and scored a run for Boston (76-59), which saw its modest two-game winning streak come to an end.
Clay Buchholz (15-6) suffered his first loss since July 21. The 26-year-old right-hander had won his last five decisions, but permitted two runs and six hits in five innings to take the loss.
