Rowland-Smith (0-4) lasted just 2 2/3 innings, allowing a career-high tying seven runs on 10 hits. The right-hander has surrendered 17 runs over his last 10 innings.

The A's scored seven runs on 11 hits in the first three innings, highlighted by the pair of two-run shots.

Oakland starter Gio Gonzalez (4-3) allowed three runs on four hits in seven innings, walked four and struck out four.

Seattle second baseman Jose Lopez drove in three runs -- two on singles and another on an RBI ground out -- for his first RBIs since May 1.

Matt Tuiasosopo hit his first homer in the fourth for the Mariners as the ball bounced off the heel of the glove of center fielder Rajai Davis and went over the wall.
